A Better Baby Bunting

circa 2012

Our extended family is expecting a new member this fall
and we are all very excited for the new couple.
I married into a large family
that is spread from coast to coast,
north to south with a fair amount in the middle.
I have made every one of my husband’s siblings
a variation of the same baby bunting
since the first child was born over 21 years ago.
Over the years I have knit many buntings.
The last one was about 10 years ago and is still in use.
This was back when I was just an occasional knitter.

I am so much more committed to my knitting now,
like insanity committed.

circa 1992

I pulled out the bunting I knit
about 20 years ago for my son.
I was very surprised
at how much my skill has improved.
If I didn’t see the two pieces side by side
I wouldn’t have believed it myself.

Aside from gauge and yarn everything is better.
Including gauge and yarn everything is better.
Oh lets face it - everything is just better.
So while I will still be handing down
my son’s bunting to him for nostalgia,
I will also be knitting something
heirloom worthy for my grandchild;
when the time comes. ;-)

For now I'll keep working on this one.
