Here are my latest pair of socks. This is the Lacy Mock Cable sock. I enjoyed knitting these. They are my 5th pair this year. I had set a goal for myself to knit 6 pairs of socks this year. I think I am going to up that goal and really challenge myself.
I finished my first pair of socks in Sept of 2008. I worked on them for 3 months. I worked on nothing else for those 3 months. I did every aspect of that sock many times over. Toes, heels, insteps, soles, cuffs. Such a small item with so many parts. I borrowed books from the Public Library. I expanded my sock knitting library. I devoured any magazine with anything written about sock knitting. At last I felt comfortable enough to go forth and jump into the sock knitting world.
Considering it took me the 3 months to knit my first pair of socks I thought 6 pairs would be a good goal for this year. Then I counted how many pairs of socks I knit last year and now I'm thinking I'd better step it up a notch or two.
In 2009 I knit 8 pairs of socks. So I've decided to knit a minimum of 8 pairs and an ultimate goal of a dozen in 12 months. Yes 12 in 12. I think I'm ready. I'll have to cast on a pair or two today to make my goal.
I love wearing hand knitted, yummy wool socks. And don't get me started on how much better wool socks are in the northeast winters then any other fiber! Whether its top-downs by Cookie A. or toe-ups by Wendy D. Johnson, I love them all. I am now an intrepid sock knitter. I think I will always have at least one pair of socks on the needles at all times.
I think by the time holiday season rolls around I might be ready for a sock of the month club - hint, hint ;)
